Barack Obama: What’s the Deal?

A lot of people are trying to figure out what’s going on in the White House.  Barack Obama seems disconnected from the Presidency.

The evidence is becoming impossible to ignore.  Obama does not like being President. He does not like his job.

Obama does not actively engage with Congress in crafting important legislation like health insurance “reform”, new banking regulations, and budgetary problems.  He delegates policy to a cadre of non-elected, non-confirmed “advisors” who operate outside the normal channels of the cabinet and the government agencies.  He is largely invisible during every major crisis and slow to react to things like military challenges in Iraq and Afghanistan, the continued high U.S. unemployment, the Gulf oil spill, the Middle East discontent against governments friendly to the United States like Egypt, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, and continued illegal immigration across the U.S. & Mexico border.  He has no policy to help friends or hinder enemies.  He is seen world wide as weak and undependable.

Obama reminds me of the kid we all knew in high school who always had a reason why nothing was his fault and always had a bogus excuse when he screwed up.

A friend recently asked me, “Is Obama incompetent, clueless, or just plain evil?”

The truth is that Obama is exactly the person who got elected.  He has no prior executive experience, no prior management experience, no prior leadership experience, no prior business experience, and no prior policy experience.  His legislative experience is extremely slight, limited to being a state senator and two years as a U.S. Senator.  The truth is that a city councilman who owns a small business and served as president of the local Chamber of Commerce would have more relevant experience and better qualifications to be President than Barack Obama.

The people who voted for Obama were deceived by his oratory.  But now we all realize that even his oratory skills are illusory.  Without a teleprompter Obama is barely able to put together a coherent sentence.  I shudder to think what other world leaders think after a one on one conversation with our President.

Given these facts it is not a surprise that Obama’s job performance is so dismal.  Leadership is a learned skill.  Making correct important decisions is a learned skill.  The best leaders are born with innate skills and intelligence, heightened and honed by education, and perfected by trial and error engendered by experience.  Obama has none of these.  Think of Winston Churchill or Dwight Eisenhower.

Barack Obama is failing to lead because he does not know how.  He is disengaged because he does not know what to do.  He is AWOL during every major crisis because he is clueless.  It’s not any wonder that he chooses to go golfing, go on vacation, or work on his college basketball tournament “brackets”.  He has no idea what else to do.

America is saddled with a lack of leadership at the highest office in the land during a time of multiple challenges.  We must hope that we get through the next two years without a major terrorist attack like September 11, 2001, a major natural disaster like the earthquake in Japan, or a major military challenge.

Barack Obama is not up to the job.  He is too inexperienced to know what to do and too egotistical to admit it.  His response is to disengage.
